If you are looking for one of the most energy-efficient heating and cooling systems for your home or business, look no further than geothermal systems. These ground source heat pump systems provide consistent heating and cooling operations whether it’s 100 degrees or below freezing outside. This is possible because these systems use the earth’s temperature as its heat exchange source, which is relatively consistent (45-75 degrees Fahrenheit). Compare this to a traditional air-source air conditioner or heat pump, which uses the fluctuating outside air as its heat exchange source, and you can see why geothermal systems are up to 70% more efficient.
At Cagle Service Heating & Air, we are proud to be one of the few providers and installers of these ultra-efficient systems. Give us a call today if you’d like to inquire about a geothermal heat pump for your home or business!
As its name implies, geothermal heat pumps use the earth’s temperature as its heat exchange source. This means that they don’t require fossil fuels to provide heat like gas furnaces do. They only use electricity and the earth’s temperature for both heating and cooling operations.
Above the ground, geothermal heating and cooling systems look fairly similar to your typical air conditioner or heat pump setup. It’s the underground portion of the system that really sets it apart.
Geothermal heat pumps, for example, implement underground lines known as loops. These loop systems, filled with water or a water/antifreeze mix, absorb the geothermal energy in the earth (which is typically around 50 degrees Fahrenheit). This energy is then transformed into warm air for heating purposes. For cooling purposes the operation is the opposite. Warm air is extracted from inside the home, for example, and released underground. The remaining cool air is then dispersed inside the home.
In both instances, the earth’s moderate temperature of around 50 degrees Fahrenheit provides the perfect heat exchange source for heating and cooling purposes. It requires much less energy when compared to outside air as the heat exchange source which can be 90-100 degrees in the Summer (too much heat) or 32 degrees and below in the winter (not enough heat).
You’ll be glad to know that we have over 50 years of HVAC experience in the Jackson, TN area and that includes installing and repairing geothermal heating and cooling systems. And that’s important. Installing geothermal heat pump systems requires much more planning, labor, and materials compared to a conventional HVAC system, primarily due to the underground portion of the system. For this reason, it’s vital to hire a company with experience.
