At Cagle Service Heating and Air, we encourage the use of programmable thermostats because they are extremely convenient and helpful. They allow you to set certain schedules for your heating and air system by automatically adjusting your thermostat to a specific temperature. They are especially helpful when you are away from home or have fluctuating demands for your heating and air system.

What are Programmable Thermostats?
Just as a traditional manual thermostat served to control the temperature of your heating and air system, so does a programmable thermostat. It can be operated manually, but also has the capability to serve your desired schedule, and the temperatures for that schedule, whether you are present or away.
For example, let’s say that your normal set temperature for your home is 72 degrees. But, in order to save energy and money, you want to have the set temperature rise to 82 while you’re away. You can program the thermostat to automatically set the temperature to 82 when you leave the house in the morning for work. On that same program or schedule, you can program the thermostat to lower back down to 72 degrees 30 minutes to an hour before you arrive home. Now, this can be done manually as well, but the convenience and comfort of having your thermostat do it for you is a definite upgrade!
You can even have a certain schedule for every day of the week with a 7-day programmable thermostat.
Easy Programming
Programming can be done by inputting the programming settings that you desire in the thermostat itself via it’s screen/interface. Some models allow you to input your programming information into an included memory card (USB) via your computer or device. Then, the memory card can be plugged into the thermostat and will be downloaded to the thermostat.
Benefits of Programmable Thermostats
There are many benefits with a programmable thermostat. Some of them include:
- Lowers Energy Bills – It is believed that switching to a programmable thermostat can save up to 10%-20% on the energy bill, if programmed correctly.
- Flexible Scheduling and Programs.
- Humidity Controls – Many programmable thermostats having humidity controls built in so that you can tie in programming for your dehumidifier or humidifier.
- Heating and Air System Alerts – Some models will alert you when your system needs servicing or the air filter needs to be changed.
- Maximizing Zoned Systems – If you have a zoned system, you can program each thermostat for each zone according to the schedule and temperatures that you want for that zone. Rather than having to manually adjust each thermostat constantly, once the schedule is set for each zone, it can be left alone.
- Much more accurate temperature readings when compared to traditional analog/mechanical thermostats.
